So, the holiday season is here again...

I know I say this every year but wasn't Christmas over last week!? Thanksgiving is just a week away and then Christmas not too long after that. I am wholly convinced that I will begin seeing the holiday decorations in August just any year now. It gets earlier and earlier each year. Then there is the issue of the naming of the season. When I was in school we got out for Christmas break; now my kids get out for winter break. We no longer see, or say, Merry Christmas now it is Happy Holidays. I guess it isn't politically correct to inject the word Christ into the reason why we even have the season. I know one thing, I will be happy to see January 2, 2011 so I can again be surprised that it has snuck up on me yet another year.

Posting consistency

My goal when I began this blog was to try to post something every day. Unfortunately I have not reached that level yet. In my defense I am really still setting everything up, so I still hold out hope that it will become more consistent as I get comfortable.

Who I really am

What can you really learn from the little "about me" boxes on a profile? My thoughts are not alot. So, I will take some space to tell you who I really am. These are in no specific order of importance; instead this how they came to me as I was writing. I guess the way they came out shows the order of importance in a way.

• I am a husband-I have been so for 17 years now. We have had lots of peaks and lots of valleys but in the end we come out together and that's a good thing.
• I am a father-I have been so for 14 years. I have a daughter who is 14 and a son who is 11. They are by far my greatest accomplishment yet. I am not sure that I will ever do anything that will top fatherhood.
• I am a salesman-I have been so for about 4 years off and on. I love doing it despite some of the negative connotations that go with that job title. To tell the truth about 99% of us are really just trying to provide for our families and are pretty good people even though some think we are dishonest crooks.
• I am a brother-I am the oldest of three so I suppose I have been a brother most of my life. I have one brother that I have a very strained relationship with and we haven't spoken in 5 years or so. I am really closer to my baby brother but we both lead busy lives and live 3 hours apart.
• I am a son- I have been so my whole life. My family was/is far from Leave it to Beaver. My father passed away when I was 27 and I have  some regrets that we really only developed a decent relationship in the last 4 years of his life. My mother lives close to my youngest brother and we really don't speak that often.
• I am a want to be writer-I been so all my life. I guess one of my greatest dreams is to be a writer. I have always written in one form or another. I wrote a ton of short stories when I was a kid. I went thru a poetry phase as well. I often toy with the idea of writing a novel but I am not sure I have the time or patience for that.

So, just a small glimpse into who I am. I am pretty sure I am a lot more complicated that what I have managed to put down here, but it is a start.

What to name this blog...

There is so much pressure when it comes to naming a blog. Alot of things need to be considered. I like the name, will anyone else? If no one else likes the name will they bother to read it? If I saw the name of this blog would I be enticed to read it? Do I even care if it gets read?

So, it is with the greatest care that I chose the name I did. I hope you like it and I hope you follow it. I expect there will be posts that are good and some not so good. I suppose it really depends on how spectacular or ordinary my life really is. It is my intention to inject humor where I can and maybe I will succeed.
